Five hours and twenty minutes. That is the direct flight from DXB to Zanzibar, shorter than Dubai to London, with a one-hour time difference. The Serengeti is closer to you than most people in the Gulf realise.

Flights
Getting there from DXB
flydubai flies nonstop to Zanzibar daily, often several times a day in season. Air Tanzania also links Dubai with Dar es Salaam. Fares start around AED 2,000 return when booked ahead.
There is no nonstop to Kilimanjaro Airport, where Northern Circuit safaris begin. Two ways around it: Qatar Airways via Doha lands you at Kilimanjaro directly, or you fly into Zanzibar and take the short domestic hop to Arusha. We book that leg for you.
Our advice: fly into Zanzibar, safari first, beach last, fly home from ZNZ. No backtracking, and you end the trip rested instead of dusty.
Visas
Visas for UAE citizens and residents
Tanzania looks at your passport, not your Emirates ID. UAE citizens pay $50 for a single-entry eVisa at visa.immigration.go.tz. The same applies to most expat passports: Indian, Pakistani, British, Filipino, Egyptian.
One exception worth knowing: US passport holders living in Dubai must take the $100 multiple-entry visa. That rule catches people out.
Apply on the official portal only, at least three weeks out. Third-party visa sites charge extra for nothing.
Timing
Your worst season is our best one
June to October is when Dubai empties out. It is also, by no coincidence anyone planned, the finest stretch of the Tanzanian year. Dry season. Cool mornings around 12°C in Arusha, afternoons in the mid-20s. The grass is short, water is scarce, and wildlife gathers where you can see it.
July through September adds the headline act: the Great Migration crossing the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. If you have ever wanted to see two hundred thousand wildebeest argue with crocodiles about right of way, this is the window, and it sits exactly inside the UAE summer holidays.

Halal Travel
A safari that fits how you already travel
Tanzania is one of the easiest safari countries for Muslim travelers, and it is not close. Zanzibar is over 95% Muslim. Halal food is the default across the coast and normal everywhere else. Mosques are part of the streetscape, not something you hunt for.
We are a Muslim-run operator. Halal meals as standard, no alcohol in the vehicle, prayer times built into each day's plan, qibla direction and prayer mats sorted. During Ramadan we schedule game drives around suhoor and iftar, and yes, we have served iftar in the middle of the Serengeti.

Questions from Dubai and the UAE
Are there direct flights from Dubai to Tanzania?
Yes. flydubai flies nonstop from Dubai (DXB) to Zanzibar (ZNZ) in about 5 hours 20 minutes, with up to 21 departures a week. Air Tanzania also serves the Dubai route. There is no nonstop flight from Dubai to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), so if your safari starts in Arusha you either connect through Doha on Qatar Airways, which flies directly to Kilimanjaro, or fly into Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam and take a short domestic flight up to Arusha. We arrange the domestic legs as part of the itinerary.
Do UAE residents need a visa for Tanzania?
Almost everyone needs one, and it depends on your passport, not your residency. UAE citizens and most expat nationalities (Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, British, and others) apply for the ordinary single-entry eVisa at visa.immigration.go.tz for $50. US passport holders are the exception: they must take the $100 multiple-entry visa. Apply only on the official government portal and allow up to 10 business days. Visa on arrival exists, but a queue after a 5-hour flight is not how you want to start a holiday.
What is the time difference between Dubai and Tanzania?
One hour. Tanzania is GMT+3, the UAE is GMT+4. There is no jet lag on this trip. You land, you sleep normally, and you are watching wildlife the next morning. Compare that to guests arriving from London or New York who need a day to recover.
When is the best time to go on safari from Dubai?
June to October, and it happens to line up perfectly with the Gulf summer. While Dubai sits at 45°C, Arusha mornings are 10 to 15°C and Serengeti afternoons around 25°C. This is also Tanzania's dry season, when wildlife concentrates at rivers and waterholes, and July to September is when the Great Migration crosses the Mara River in the northern Serengeti. December to February is the second window: calving season in Ndutu, and pleasant weather while the UAE has its short winter.
Is Tanzania halal-friendly?
More than almost any safari destination. Around a third of mainland Tanzania is Muslim and Zanzibar is over 95% Muslim, so halal food is the norm rather than a special request. We are a Muslim-run company: our safaris run with halal meals as standard, no alcohol in the vehicle, and prayer time built into the day's plan. Zanzibar has mosques within walking distance of most Stone Town hotels.
How much does a Tanzania safari cost from Dubai?
Return flights from Dubai start around AED 2,000 to ZNZ if you book a couple of months ahead. The safari itself at mid-range private level runs $400 to $700 per person per day including lodges, park fees, vehicle, and guide. Can I do a safari over Eid or a long UAE weekend?
Eid, yes. A long weekend, honestly, no. With a 5-hour flight you can run a meaningful 5 to 7 day safari over an Eid break: Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti, or a 4-day safari plus 3 days on a Zanzibar beach. Anything under 4 days on the ground means most of your time goes to transfers, and we would rather tell you that now than sell you a rushed trip.
Can I combine the safari with Zanzibar?
This is the classic routing from Dubai, and the flights make it easy: land in Zanzibar, fly up to Arusha for the safari, then finish on the beach and fly home directly from ZNZ. No backtracking. Most of our UAE guests do 4 to 6 days of safari plus 3 to 4 nights in Zanzibar.
What currency do I use in Tanzania?
US dollars. The entire safari industry prices in USD: lodges, park fees, tips. Change your dirhams to dollars before you fly, in small bills printed after 2009 (older notes get refused). Cards work at most lodges. Budget $300 to $500 in cash per couple for tips and extras on a week-long trip.
